“The Salish Sea Market is about creating community through art,” says owner Sharon Waugh. For me, it’s about the story behind the artists, and how they express culture through their art.”

One of the most appealing aspects of the Salish Sea Market in Bowser, BC is its distinct sense of place. Named for the body of water that stretches from Seattle, Washington to Campbell River. After that what makes it extraordinary is that it features local artists whose works of art are created “within sight” and “with insight” of the Salish Sea,” says owner and long time resident of the area, Sharon Waugh.
“The Salish Sea Market is about creating community through art,” she says For me, it’s about the story behind the artist, and how they express culture through their art.”
According to Waugh, after four years in business, the Salish Sea Market has become a destination. She points to the supportive community in Bowser and neighbouring communities in the Oceanside region for the market’s success. “There’s still lots of room in the region for more people looking to express their own entrepreneurial and creative spirit,” she says.
